Bhubaneswar: In a major step toward strengthening healthcare access, the Odisha government has announced the launch of three key health schemes—the combined Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) and Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana (GJAY), along with the Ayushman Bayobandana Yojana. The schemes will come into effect from 1 April 2025.
Widespread Healthcare Coverage
Under the combined AB-PMJAY and GJAY schemes, more than 1.03 crore families will receive medical benefits. Meanwhile, the Ayushman Bayobandana Yojana will provide healthcare coverage to all citizens aged 70 and above.
In total, this initiative is set to provide healthcare access to over 3.52 crore individuals across Odisha.
Key Benefits
Extensive Reach: Approximately 67.8 lakh families will be covered under AB-PMJAY, while 35.84 lakh families will be included under GJAY scheme.
Financial Support: Men will receive up to Rs 5 lakh in medical aid, women up to Rs 10 lakh, and families with senior members above 70 years will be entitled to a maximum coverage of Rs 15 lakh.
Elderly Care: The Bayobandana Yojana will specifically cater to around 23.13 lakh senior citizens, with an additional 6 lakh beneficiaries included under this category.
Co-Branded Health Cards and Hospital Network
To streamline access, beneficiaries of AB-PMJAY and GJAY will receive a unified co-branded health card, while a separate card will be issued for those covered under the Bayobandana Yojana.
Beneficiaries will have access to treatment at over 29,000 empaneled government and private hospitals nationwide.
Statewide Awareness and Implementation
The official launch will be marked by events across all 1,438 primary health centers in Odisha, accompanied by an extensive awareness campaign to maximize outreach and participation.
Odisha Government’s Commitment to Healthcare
The initiative builds upon an agreement signed on 13 January 2025, between the Odisha government and the National Health Authority in New Delhi.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi highlighted that this co-branded healthcare model will set a new benchmark in public health services.
The scheme is expected to transform Odisha’s healthcare landscape, making quality medical support more accessible and affordable for millions.
