New Delhi: Foxconn, Apple’s supplier, is reportedly looking to acquire up to a 300-acre land parcel near the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Greater Noida.
This factory, which is anticipated to be the first in the northern region of the nation, may surpass the proposed facility in Bengaluru, Karnataka, in terms of size. Additionally, if the facility is established in the UP, it could also become the second-biggest plant globally.
This development coincides with Apple and the Taiwan-based company’s efforts to establish a supply chain in India in order to circumvent Chinese tariffs.
However, it was also stated that what the factory will be manufacturing in the UP facility is yet to be decided, as the discussion between the company and the government is ongoing.
The state government had given the HCL-Foxconn facility land close to the future Jewar airport.
According to a March report, the government is nearing completion on the next round of proposals for semiconductor projects that are still outstanding under the India Semiconductor Mission’s (ISM) first phase.
This news comes at a time when the central government has formally rolled out a Rs 22,919 crore scheme aimed at bolstering the domestic production of electronics components, marking a critical shift in its electronics manufacturing target.
This scheme, approved by the Union Cabinet on 28 March, has been designed to encourage the production of non-semiconductor electronic components in India.
It should also be noted that the UP government has set the lofty goal of luring Rs 70,000 crore in private sector investment for its data centre and electronics manufacturing sectors.
