Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has partnered with fintech firm Paytm to digitize property tax collection across the city. The initiative aims to make payments more accessible and reduce reliance on cash transactions.
Digital Payment Expansion
GHMC has introduced over 400 Paytm All-In-One EDC devices at collection centers and for door-to-door tax collection. These devices allow residents to pay taxes using credit cards, debit cards and QR codes, offering multiple payment options beyond traditional cash, cheques, or demand drafts.
The devices are integrated with the GHMC app, enabling officials to check dues, process transactions instantly, and issue digital receipts.
Impact on Tax Collection
GHMC collects between Rs five to seven crore in property tax every month, with peak collections reaching Rs 22 crore. By incorporating Paytm’s digital payment solutions, the civic body aims to streamline the process and reduce delays in tax payments.
A GHMC spokesperson noted that the initiative provides citizens with “multiple digital payment options” to simplify transactions. A Paytm representative added that the move enhances efficiency in municipal tax collection.
Paytm’s Recent Digital Offerings
Beyond its collaboration with GHMC, Paytm has been expanding its digital financial services. The company recently launched UPI statement downloads, UPI Trading Blocks, and a ‘Receive Money QR Widget.’ These services align with its broader push to strengthen digital payment adoption across various sectors.
GHMC’s adoption of Paytm’s technology reflects a growing trend among Indian municipal bodies to modernize tax collection systems through fintech partnerships.
