Kolkata: Kolkata is set to get India’s largest single-site Electric Vehicle (EV) charging hub in the Thakurpukur area near Behala before Durga Puja.
Incidentally, this will be the second largest EV charging hub in the world, with 300 chargers. To date, India’s largest single-site EV charging hub was in Gurgaon, with 160 charging points.
The largest facility in the world is in China and houses 650 chargers at a single location.
New Delhi-based company EzUrja is building this EV charging hub on a nearly two-acre abandoned plant of PSU Andrew Yule & Co.
The charging hub will be executed for 300 vehicles of Snap-E, the all-electric app-based cab service. The project is expected to cost Rs 7.5 crore and become operational by August this year.
Andrew Yule has offered the land under a commercial arrangement. The hub will have a mix of fast and slow chargers, with capacity loads of up to 120 kWh.
Fast chargers will constitute about 20 per cent of the total. The full load capacity of the hub will be 6 MW. Solar panels and storage batteries are being installed to enhance sustainability.
About 40 per cent of the load will be generated from the microgrid being developed at the site to ensure reliable energy supply. Both EzUrja and Snap E will collaborate on this project to develop a robust e-mobility Infrastructure.
EzUrja is also developing an EV charging infrastructure along the 250 km Kolkata Asansol Highway. There will be 10 EV charging stations of 240kwh capacity for e-buses. It will be built in collaboration with the state power department.
