Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has again started the Duare KMC camps in different wards to assess the lands, houses, and properties remaining outside tax purview.
Duare KMC camps have already been organised in the added areas at Jadavpur, Behala, Joka and Garden Reach, as well as in North Kolkata within the main city limits.
The KMC has decided to list the pending mutation and assessment files. While this would provide relief to citizens who have been impacted by mutation travails for a long time, it would also mean significant tax earnings for the KMC.
The KMC Mayor Firhad Hakim had instructed a ward-wise assessment of house, land or factory and calculate both the property tax and mutation amounts.
In many cases, properties in the added areas had not undergone mutation, and these need to be resolved quickly. This will lead to a 25-30 per cent increase in revenues for KMC.
The property tax department of KMC is divided into eight divisions. These are North Kolkata, South Kolkata, two divisions in Jadavpur, Tollygunge tax, Behala, Joka and Garden Reach.
Despite being operational for years, the One Day Mutation System had consistently failed to function effectively, resulting in a daily backlog of 150-180 pending mutation files in each divisional unit.
Now, with fast action taking place, on average, 35 mutation files are being cleared in each area daily. This still leaves about 10-25 files pending daily, and the Mayor wants to redress this too.
