New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) unveiled a new Aadhaar app for mobile phone users, equipped with advanced privacy features and face authentication, during its flagship stakeholder meet, Aadhaar Samvaad 2025, held in New Delhi.
The app aims to give Aadhaar holders greater control over their personal data while accessing public and private services, marking a significant leap in user-centric digital identity management.
Designed to address growing concerns around data sharing and consent, the new Aadhaar app enables users to selectively share only the required personal information through secure QR code scans or digital verification with requesting entities.
UIDAI officials highlighted that the application eliminates the need for physical photocopies, thereby reducing misuse risks and ensuring real-time, privacy-preserving transactions.
A major innovation is the integration of Aadhaar Face Authentication, which is gaining strong momentum across sectors, now clocking over 15 crore transactions monthly.
The app has been initially released to a select group of early adopters, including all registered attendees of Aadhaar Samvaad, with a nationwide rollout expected soon.
UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar said the app is a reflection of UIDAI’s forward-looking approach to technology and service delivery.
“This app places power in the hands of the people. It gives individuals digital control over their identity and ensures privacy by design. From service delivery to reuniting missing children with their families, Aadhaar continues to evolve with a humane purpose,” he said.
The conference was inaugurated by Union Minister for Electronics & IT, Railways, and I&B, Ashwini Vaishnaw, who hailed Aadhaar as the foundation of India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI).
Drawing parallels with the industrial revolution, he underscored the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and encouraged stakeholders to ideate on merging AI with Aadhaar-based services to improve governance—while prioritizing privacy.
“Ease of living is at the centre of our digital initiatives. Aadhaar, especially face authentication, is a powerful enabler in this journey,” Vaishnaw said.
Meanwhile, MeitY Secretary S Krishnan stressed how Aadhaar is enabling rapid inclusion and boosting economic growth, thanks to its robust privacy and authentication architecture.
Dr Saurabh Garg, Secretary of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), echoed these sentiments, noting that Aadhaar has become a pivotal enabler in India’s data-driven development agenda.
In addition, UIDAI showcased its Sandbox environment for developers and demonstrated innovative Aadhaar use cases. The closed-door discussions focused on technology adoption in Aadhaar enrolment, data privacy frameworks, authentication upgrades, and expanding Aadhaar’s role in governance.
