New Delhi: Google Cloud is set to deepen its engagement with the Indian government through active collaboration on the IndiaAI Mission, company executive Bikram Singh Bedi revealed during a media interaction.
Bedi, who serves as the vice president and managing director of Google Cloud India, reportedly said discussions are underway with the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) to support national AI initiatives.
“One of the reasons we set up the Delhi region was to serve public sector needs. The next phase is the AI mission opportunity, where we are closely working with the government,” Bedi said, highlighting the company’s strategic focus on India’s public sector and AI ecosystem.
While only the Gemini 1.5 Flash AI model is currently hosted in India, Bedi noted that regular refresh cycles will ensure newer versions are made locally available. He also emphasised India’s rapid digital growth, calling it one of the fastest globally, and underscored Google Cloud’s commitment to enhancing both technological capacity and infrastructure.
With existing data centres in Delhi and Mumbai and expansion plans in Navi Mumbai, Google Cloud is also working with telecom partners like Airtel to deliver sovereign cloud services. As AI workloads demand increased edge computing capabilities, Bedi said Google’s control over its full AI technology stack, including infrastructure, models, agents, and the Vertex AI platform, positions it well for cost-efficient innovation.
Industry estimates suggest data centre investments in India could exceed $100 billion by 2027, further validating Google Cloud’s aggressive push in the region.
