Bhopal: GreenCell Mobility is set to deploy 1,222 electric buses in Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh under the central government’s PM E-Bus Sewa Scheme. The company has received Letters of Award (LoAs) for both projects, marking a significant expansion in its inter-city and intra-city electric mobility operations.
In Madhya Pradesh, GreenCell will supply and operate 472 Eicher electric buses in partnership with VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV). These will be introduced across six cities, although city-specific details have not been disclosed.
Separately, GreenCell has teamed up with Pinnacle Mobility Solutions (operating as EKA Mobility) to deploy 750 electric buses in 11 cities in Andhra Pradesh. The initiative is part of a broader push to strengthen zero-emission public transport infrastructure in urban areas under the PM E-Bus Sewa Scheme, which aims to support state and city governments in procuring electric buses through a public-private model.
Operational and Infrastructure Expansion
GreenCell currently operates 900 electric buses across Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. The new contracts will add Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh to its operational footprint. The company is also working on developing the necessary charging infrastructure to support this scale-up.
The electric buses, including those manufactured by VECV, have already been in operation across several states and have collectively completed over 1.4 crore kilometres, according to company data.
Sector Collaboration and Government Push
The PM E-Bus Sewa Scheme, launched to decarbonise public transport, includes central assistance for electric bus operations while encouraging state-level execution through private partners. GreenCell’s involvement, along with partners like VECV and EKA Mobility, reflects the growing role of private sector operators in meeting public mobility goals.
This deployment is expected to boost clean transport accessibility in Tier II and Tier III cities, aligning with India’s long-term sustainability targets and reducing urban transport emissions.
