Ahmedabad: In a move to strengthen Industry 4.0 training infrastructure, the Gujarat government has established the iFactory Lab at the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Kubernagar, Ahmedabad.
The initiative is led by Kaushalya, The Skill University, in collaboration with the Ministry of Heavy Industries.
The iFactory Lab aims to provide hands-on training in emerging technologies such as robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), cyber-physical systems, and data analytics. The facility is designed to replicate real-world industrial environments, helping students and working professionals understand integrated automation systems and smart manufacturing processes.
Unlike conventional training setups, the lab emphasises practical learning over theoretical instruction. The training modules are built around current and future needs of the manufacturing and automation sectors, with participants expected to gain exposure to end-to-end digital production systems and intelligent data management.
Bridging Skill Gaps in Tech-Driven Sectors
State officials highlighted that the lab will help bridge the disconnect between academic learning and on-ground industrial practices. By aligning technical education with current industry demands, the facility is expected to support capacity building for a workforce responsive to automation and digital transformation.
The training programs will be open to students from technical and vocational institutions as well as to industry personnel seeking to upgrade their skillsets in line with technological shifts in manufacturing.
Part of Broader National and State Skill Strategy
According to a state government release, the iFactory Lab aligns with India’s broader goal of becoming a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047. The initiative also contributes to India’s ambition to move further up the Global Innovation Index, where it currently ranks 40th.
The lab is intended to serve as a collaborative platform between academia and industry. By fostering awareness of evolving industrial trends and promoting industry-ready skills, the facility is expected to play a role in supporting India’s participation in global value chains.
Officials noted that such initiatives are critical in preparing the youth for tech-centric employment, especially as manufacturing sectors worldwide adopt Industry 4.0 technologies at scale.
