New Delhi: The Digital India Bhashini Division (DIBD) and the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to introduce multilingual artificial intelligence solutions across key digital platforms managed by Indian Railways.
The MoU was signed by Amitabh Nag, CEO of BHASHINI and G.V.L. Satya Kumar, Managing Director of CRIS.
This collaboration seeks to integrate BHASHINI’s advanced language technology stack into widely used railway systems such as the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) and RailMadad.
This includes Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), Text-to-Text Translation, Text-to-Speech (TTS) and Optical Character Recognition (OCR)
With this integration, railway users will soon be able to access services in 22 Indian languages, improving accessibility for millions of daily passengers nationwide.
Speaking at the event, Nag emphasised the transformative potential of the partnership, stating that language will no longer be a barrier for citizens in accessing crucial railway services.
CRIS MD noted that the initiative would drive inclusivity and enhance user experience by embedding AI-driven features across platforms such as websites, mobile apps, kiosks and call centres.
As part of the initiative, both organisations will also work on developing multilingual chatbots and voice assistants, creating over-the-counter enquiry systems in regional languages and deploying speech-based interfaces.
The rollout will be supported by cloud and on-premise infrastructure, with joint technical workshops and pilot projects expected to begin in the coming months.
