Bengaluru: In a major administrative reshuffle, the Karnataka government has appointed senior IAS Anjum Parwez (1994 batch) as the new Additional Chief Secretary to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Parwez, who currently heads the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, will additionally oversee the Forest, Ecology & Environment Department.
His appointment follows the resignation of IAS LK Atheeq, the outgoing Additional Chief Secretary to the CM. Atheeq, a 1991-batch IAS officer, had continued in the role on a contractual basis after his superannuation in January 2025, highlighting his longstanding association with CM Siddaramaiah. Parwez’s tenure is expected to run until February 2029, marking a long-term administrative role at the Chief Minister’s Office.
Despite stepping down from his core responsibilities, Atheeq will continue to serve as chairperson of Bengaluru Business Corridor (BBC) Ltd., the special purpose vehicle tasked with implementing the high-profile Peripheral Ring Road project.
The reshuffle signals a strategic shift in the state’s bureaucratic leadership as the government seeks to push forward on key infrastructure and environmental priorities.
