Jaipur: In a move to address water scarcity and rejuvenate traditional water sources, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has announced the launch of the Vande Ganga Water Conservation Jan Abhiyan, a statewide campaign running from 5 to 20 June.
The initiative focuses on rejuvenating groundwater, promoting rainwater harvesting and encouraging sustainable water practices across Rajasthan’s drought-prone regions. The announcement was made during a high-level meeting chaired by CM Sharma at his residence.
Highlighting the urgency of the issue, CM Sharma stated, “Water is life, especially in a state like ours. We must turn water conservation into a public movement,” calling on citizens, officials, and communities to unite in protecting the state’s dwindling water resources.
The launch of the campaign coincides with World Environment Day and Ganga Dussehra on 5 June. It will integrate environmental awareness with cultural values and feature symbolic events such as the Vande Ganga Kalash Yatra and ceremonial rituals at key reservoirs, aiming to strengthen public resolve toward conservation.
With this initiative, the Rajasthan government seeks to embed long-term environmental responsibility into daily life, especially in regions most vulnerable to water stress.
