Kolkata: IAS Manoj Pant will remain as the Chief Secretary of West Bengal for another six months.
As per the notification, 30 June was the last day in service for the 1991 batch IAS officer.
However, West Bengal has recommended extending his services for another six months. A letter accordingly was sent to the Centre on 28 June.
Yesterday afternoon, the approval letter came from the Centre extending Pant’s tenure as Chief Secretary till 31 December.
With the Bengal elections scheduled for May 2026, there are already speculations that the West Bengal government might request another six-month extension for Pant.
Incidentally, the Centre has approved West Bengal’s recommendation to extend the tenures of the last two Chief Secretaries too.
Harikrishna Dwivedi’s tenure was extended by six months, while B P Gopalika received a three-month extension in tenure.
