Jaipur: The Rajasthan government has announced the appointment of senior IPS Rajeev Kumar Sharma as the new Director General of Police (DGP).
A 1990 batch officer from the Rajasthan cadre, Sharma takes over from IPS Ravi Prakash Meharda (1991 batch), who has retired after serving as acting DGP.
Currently on central deputation as the Director General of the Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D), Sharma was the senior-most officer in the cadre and widely regarded as the leading candidate for the post.Â
A native of Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, Sharma brings over 34 years of experience in policing and administration. He has served as Superintendent of Police (SP) in several districts, including Jhalawar, Dausa, Rajsamand, Jaipur Traffic, Bharatpur, and Jaipur. His leadership roles include serving as Inspector General in Bharatpur and Bikaner, Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), and DG (Law & Order). He has also held key national-level positions such as RPA Director and Joint Director in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
An MA and MPhil holder, Sharma is known for his extensive field policing and intelligence background. His appointment is expected to strengthen Rajasthan’s crime control, police modernization, and institutional reforms.
