Mumbai: ICICI Lombard has migrated its disaster recovery (DR) infrastructure from Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) Mumbai Region to the Hyderabad Region, aiming to improve operational resilience against climate and technology-related disruptions.
The move covers all business-critical applications and is built on a cloud-native, fully automated architecture. The company utilised AWS tools such as Elastic Disaster Recovery, AWS Step Functions, and infrastructure-as-code to enable rapid failover with minimal manual intervention.
As part of the migration, ICICI Lombard conducted a full-site disaster recovery drill to validate the setup under live conditions. The test focused on ensuring regulatory compliance, service continuity, and minimal downtime.
This shift reflects a broader trend in the BFSI sector, where insurers are reassessing their business continuity strategies amid growing operational and compliance risks. With regional diversification of cloud infrastructure gaining traction, financial institutions are increasingly adopting multi-region DR setups to mitigate localized disruptions.
ICICI Lombard has been progressively investing in digital transformation, with earlier initiatives including cloud migration of core systems and AI-enabled services such as the IL TakeCare app. The firm currently manages over 37.6 million policies and processes around 3.2 million claims annually.
AWS India, a key cloud provider to the financial sector, has seen increasing uptake of its services for mission-critical workloads. However, such transitions require complex coordination across IT, compliance, and operations teams, reflecting the evolving nature of risk management in the insurance sector.
