Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has initiated the tender process for water supply infrastructure projects worth Rs 440 crore, aimed at boosting the city’s preparedness for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela.Â
The move comes as part of a larger push to strengthen civic infrastructure before the religious mega-event, expected to draw millions of pilgrims between 2026 and 2028.
One of the primary goals of the project is to enhance the city’s water supply capacity by an additional 250 million litres per day (MLD). Nashik currently consumes over 550 MLD, and the demand is projected to surge by another 240 MLD during the Kumbh. To meet this spike, a new pumping station with a capacity of 274 MLD will be set up at the Mukane Dam, which will help utilise its full supply potential of 411 MLD.
Alongside the pumping station, a major 274 MLD water treatment plant is planned at Vilholi. New pipelines will connect this plant to Sadhugram and the Nilgiri water treatment facility in Panchavati, improving distribution and ensuring uninterrupted water supply across key zones.
These initiatives form part of a larger Rs 4,000 crore infrastructure upgrade plan, which also includes new roads, bridges, sewage treatment plants, and solid waste systems. Under the AMRUT scheme, the state government has approved an additional Rs 300–₹450 crore for pipeline and sewage upgrades.
