Rajkot: In a significant step toward modernising India’s power distribution sector, REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL) signed crucial agreements for the deployment of 33.26 lakh Smart Prepaid Meters under Phase-II of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) in the jurisdiction of Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL).
Major Agreements Signed
The major agreements include the Project Implementation Agency (PIA) Agreement, the Distribution Development Fund (DDF) Agreement, and the Advanced Metering Infrastructure Service Provider (AMISP) Contract Agreement. These contracts are structured on a Design, Build, Finance, Own, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOOT) model, ensuring a comprehensive and sustainable execution framework.
Partnership with Bharat Grid Private Limited
RECPDCL also entered into a key AMISP agreement with Bharat Grid Private Limited — a joint venture between Actis and EDF India — for the implementation of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Project.
Expected Benefits
The AMI project promises significant improvements in power distribution, including reduced losses, faster fault detection, and improved network reliability. It will also enhance consumer experience by enabling real-time monitoring, greater billing transparency, and efficient energy use.
Supporting India’s Power Goals
This initiative aligns with the Government of India’s broader vision to strengthen power infrastructure, advance digitalisation, and reduce aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses, ultimately empowering consumers and utilities alike.
