Bihar: RailTel Corporation of India Ltd has secured contracts worth about Rs 396 crore from the Bihar Education Project Council to enhance digital learning infrastructure across schools in the state. The projects include setting up Information and Communication Technology (ICT) labs, Integrated Science and Mathematics (ISM) labs, smart classrooms, and supplying teaching-learning material for Classes I–V. These initiatives will be implemented in middle, secondary and senior secondary schools, with completion timelines stretching between December 2025 and March 2026.
The Bihar Education Project Council has been pursuing measures to improve access to technology-enabled education, aiming to bridge learning gaps in science, mathematics and digital literacy. By introducing ICT and ISM labs and smart classrooms, the state seeks to strengthen classroom learning and improve teacher-student engagement through modern teaching tools.
For RailTel, a Navratna public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Railways, the contracts represent further diversification beyond its traditional railways-linked operations. The company said it has secured new orders worth around Rs 1,400 crore in the current period, taking its total order book to over Rs 7,200 crore. RailTel operates a nationwide optical fibre network and has a market capitalisation of about Rs 11,380 crore.
The latest contracts highlight RailTel’s growing role in implementing state-level digital initiatives, while also marking a step forward for Bihar’s efforts to modernise school education infrastructure. The gradual roll-out until 2026 suggests a large-scale, phased integration of digital resources aimed at long-term improvements in classroom delivery and student learning outcomes.
