New Delhi: The Central Railway has announced the operation of 1702 special trains to help passengers reach their hometowns and celebrate with their families during  Diwali and Chhath Puja.
According to reports, these special trains will operate from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), Pune, Kolhapur and Nagpur, connecting major destinations across India.
Over 800 trains will cater specifically to routes leading to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and the northeastern states, while others will link several cities across the country.
To ensure a smooth and safe travel experience, additional facilities are being put in place. Holding areas with a capacity of over 3,000 passengers each have been set up at major stations, equipped with basic amenities such as food, water, toilets and fans.
To enhance convenience, mobile UTS services are available for ticket booking and extra ticket counters have been opened to minimise waiting time.
Meanwhile, the Indian Railways has launched a crackdown on misleading social media content related to train operations during the festive season.
The administration noted that over 20 social media handles have been identified for spreading old or incorrect videos, causing confusion among passengers. The process of filing FIRs against these accounts has already begun and a 24×7 monitoring mechanism has been set up to detect and act against such activities.
The Railways has urged passengers to rely solely on official communication channels, including the verified social media handles of the Ministry of Railways (@RailMinIndia) on X, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, for authentic travel updates.
