Kolkata: Kolkata Police female Cyber Department Inspector Soma Maity has been awarded as the Cyber Cop of the Year by the Data Security Council of India (DSCI).
Maity and her Special Investigation team busted an international cyber fraud racket where they arrested 11, including the kingpin.
Lalbazar Cyber Police Station traced an economic cyber fraud last year involving more than Rs 1 crore.
Maity and her three Inspector team tracked these frauds that originated in Africa using fake IP addresses.
New technologies were used for more than a month and finally, they tracked the locations of four persons in Nigeria and Zimbabwe.
These criminals were coordinating with their counterparts in Kolkata and were able to travel regularly to Kolkata every three months.
The team under Maity verified this information from Kolkata airport and finally arrested them.
This arrest successfully foiled the international conspiracy, which could have otherwise compromised the data of national security.
