Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government has signed power supply agreements worth Rs. 60,000 crore to achieve an uninterrupted electricity supply across the state.
The state government has secured power supply agreements for 4,000 megawatts (MW) of new thermal power generation capacity.Â
The agreements were exchanged in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, marking a significant milestone in the state’s energy roadmap.
Major Power Players and Investment Commitments
The power supply agreements have been signed between the Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL) and leading energy companies—Adani Power Limited, Torrent Power Limited, and Hindustan Thermal Projects Limited.Â
Under the deal, Torrent Power has been allocated 1,600 MW with a proposed investment of Rs. 24,000 crore, while Adani Power and Hindustan Thermal Projects have each been allotted 800 MW, involving investments of Rs. 24,000 crore and Rs. 12,000 crore, respectively.
An additional 800 MW capacity has been kept under a greenshoe option, taking the total planned capacity to 4,000 MW. The cumulative investment across all projects is estimated at around Rs. 60,000 crore.
Power Supply Timeline and Economic Impact
Electricity generation from the new thermal plants is expected to begin from 2030, significantly enhancing Madhya Pradesh’s power availability and reliability. The projects are also expected to generate direct and indirect employment for nearly 8,000 people, benefiting both rural and urban communities.
Emphasis on the Role of Electricity in Development
The chief minister underscored the importance of electricity, calling it as essential as life itself. He said the agreements would ensure 100 percent power supply, strengthening the foundation for industrial growth, sustainable development, and improved quality of life across the state.
