Gandhinagar: The Navsari Municipal Corporation (NMC) has launched a Rs. 112 crore integrated water supply and drainage project.
The move aims to address chronic shortages of drinking water and issues related to sewage disposal in the city’s peripheral areas.
According to a statement from the civic body, these peri-urban areas have long struggled with inadequate water supply infrastructure and the absence of an underground drainage network. This has resulted in sanitation problems and health concerns, particularly among children.
The water supply and drainage project will be implemented in phases. It will involve laying new water supply pipelines, strengthening the drainage network, and constructing overhead tanks, underground sumps, a sewage pumping station, and a fully equipped Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). Additionally, a new water treatment plant will be set up to ensure the supply of safe and adequate drinking water to the newly merged areas.Â
Navsari was upgraded to a municipal corporation on January 1 last year, following the merger of the former Navsari–Vijalpore municipality with four adjoining villages: Aru, Dharagiri, Dantej, and Hansapor.
