Kolkata: Kolkata Airport has emerged as the Central Industrial Security Force’s (CISF) biggest hub for women personnel in the country.
This has taken place even as the CISF moves to raise its first all-women battalion at Nuh in Haryana.
Currently, Kolkata Airport has around 350 women constables and officers.
This makes it the highest deployment at any Airport in the country and about seven per cent higher than the national average.
The total strength of CISF personnel currently stands at 2102 for Kolkata Airport, of which 350 are women. This is well ahead of the national average women’s representation of nine per cent in the country.
The strong presence of women personnel at Kolkata Airport reflects a renewed thrust on gender inclusion and operational readiness in aviation security, especially in passenger screening and high footfall zones.
CISF has also launched its first all-women commando unit to strengthen specialised response capabilities.
Training for 30 women personnel for an eight-week advanced course is already underway at CISF’ s Regional Training Centre in Barwaha in Madhya Pradesh
