New Delhi: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw chaired a high-level meeting at Rail Bhavan in New Delhi to review reform initiatives in Indian Railways. The meeting was attended by Union Ministers of State V. Somanna and Ravneet Singh, Railway Board Chairman and CEO Satish Kumar, and senior officials.
The ministry decided to undertake a major reform push, targeting 52 reforms in 52 weeks, aimed at improving efficiency, governance, and service delivery.
Safety remains a key priority, with consequential train accidents reduced by nearly 90 per cent, from 135 in 2014-15 to 11 in 2025-26. The Railways now aims to bring this figure down to single digits.
The meeting also focused on accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence and advanced technologies for safety, maintenance, and operations. Talent management and skill development were discussed, with officials exploring innovative training approaches.
Infrastructure development, maintenance, and capacity enhancement initiatives were reviewed, reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to reforms, technology-driven growth and passenger-centric services.
