New Delhi: Chronic flooding at the Parade Road underpass near Dhaula Kuan Metro station may soon be resolved, with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) allocating Rs 3.5 crore for a drainage upgrade in the area, officials said.
The funds have been released to the Delhi Cantonment Board (DCB) to address persistent waterlogging near Metro pillars 156 and 157, which regularly disrupts traffic and affects nearby localities such as Rama Vihar during heavy rain.
The issue has been examined by multiple agencies, including NHAI, the public works department, DCB and the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA). After a recent review meeting, it was agreed that a drain would be permitted to pass beneath NH-48 through a new culvert, linking existing PWD and DCB drains.
It was reported that the current drainage lacks adequate outfall capacity. SPA is conducting a hydrological assessment and preparing a comprehensive drainage plan for the cantonment area.
