Anakapalli: Andhra Pradesh has taken a major step toward strengthening India’s industrial base with the launch of a massive greenfield steel plant in Nakkapalli, Anakapalli district.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for the Rs. 1.36 lakh crore project, marking one of the largest industrial investments in the state’s history.
The project is being developed by ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India and will span over 5,465 acres at Rajayyapeta. Once completed, the plant will have a total production capacity of 17.8 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), to be developed in two phases. The first phase will deliver 7.3 MTPA capacity, followed by an additional 10.5 MTPA in the second phase.
Union Steel Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and AMNS Chairman Lakshmi Mittal attended the ceremony, highlighting the project’s national importance.
A key component of the project is a captive port with a capacity of 50 million tonnes, to be developed with an investment of Rs. 11,198 crore across 316 acres. The port alone is expected to generate around 6,000 jobs.
Overall, the project is projected to create nearly one lakh employment opportunities, both direct and indirect. It also aligns with India’s goal of achieving 300 MTPA steel production capacity by 2030.
The Nakkapalli plant is expected to boost regional development and position Andhra Pradesh as a major hub in India’s steel industry.
