New Delhi: The Andhra Pradesh government has issued a stern warning to contractors over delays in the construction of Amaravati, signalling that further time overruns will not be accepted.
Municipal Administration Minister Narayana, during an inspection of gazetted officers’ quarters and Group-D housing units in Nelapadu, expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of work.
He directed contractors to adhere strictly to project timelines or withdraw from the assignments. The minister also criticised the performance of Shapoorji Pallonji Construction and instructed officials to remove two company representatives for unsatisfactory progress.
Speaking to the media, Narayana said the capital city’s development had suffered earlier due to policy uncertainty, including the three-capital proposal under the previous YSR Congress Party government. He maintained that the current administration is focused on reviving stalled works and ensuring time-bound execution.
The government said 4,026 housing units are under construction at various stages and will be prioritised for completion. Key road projects are targeted for completion within three months, while drainage networks and underground cabling are to be finalised before the monsoon.
The minister added that full-fledged administrative buildings are expected to be ready within three years, reaffirming the government’s commitment to operationalising Amaravati as the state capital.
