New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two new corridors of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation on 8 March and lay the foundation stone for three additional routes under the next phase of the network’s expansion.
According to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the projects together involve an investment exceeding Rs 18,300 crore and are expected to significantly strengthen public transport in the national capital.
The Prime Minister will open the 12.3-km Majlis Park-Maujpur-Babarpur stretch of the Pink Line, featuring eight elevated stations. With this addition, the Delhi Metro Pink Line will extend to 71.5 km, becoming the country’s first fully operational Ring Metro corridor.
He will also inaugurate the 9.92-km Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park extension of the Magenta Line with seven elevated stations, increasing the line’s length to nearly 49 km. A segment of this corridor rises to around 28.36 metres, making it among the highest elevated sections in the network.
Construction of the Majlis Park–Maujpur-Babarpur route included a new bridge over the Yamuna River and a double-decker viaduct carrying both metro tracks and a flyover.
The Prime Minister will also launch Phase-V (A) expansion corridors, including the Ramakrishna Ashram Marg–Indraprastha Central Vista route and two extensions of the Golden Line linking Indira Gandhi International Airport to additional parts of the National Capital Region.
