Guwahati, June 10 (APAC Media): The Government of Assam and the Delegation of the European Union to India have jointly launched the Blue Valley Cluster in Guwahati, an initiative designed to deepen economic cooperation between Europe and Northeast India.Â

The launch event was attended by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, European Union Ambassador to India Hervé Delphin, Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (West) Sibi George, Belgium Ambassador to India Didier Vanderhasselt, and representatives of the Federation of European Business in India (FEBI).
The Blue Valley Cluster is a key component of the broader Blue Valleys initiative and aligns with the EU-India Comprehensive Strategic Agenda adopted during the January 2026 EU-India Summit.
According to the joint statement, Assam’s strategic location, rich biodiversity, expanding connectivity, and growing innovation ecosystem position it as an ideal gateway to Northeast India and a promising destination for international partnerships and value-chain integration.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Delphin highlighted Assam’s natural resources, skilled workforce, and focus on sustainable innovation, describing the state as an attractive investment destination. He noted that the Blue Valleys initiative would help connect European and Indian businesses while advancing sustainability and community-focused development.
Delphin also referred to ongoing EU-supported projects in Assam, including CITIS 2.0 in Guwahati and the Barak River Basin Management Action Plan, expressing optimism that stronger economic collaboration would benefit the entire Northeast region.
Chief Minister Sarma said the partnership reflects a common commitment to building a resilient, innovation-led, and sustainable economy. He identified sectors such as semiconductors, electronics, defence and aviation, tea, agarwood, organic products, natural fragrances and flavours, and AYUSH-based wellness solutions as promising areas for future cooperation.
He added that the Blue Valleys platform aims to connect farmers, women-led self-help groups, startups, researchers, and industries with global value chains, facilitating technology transfer, job creation, and sustainable economic growth.
A key outcome of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Assam Industrial Development Corporation Limited (AIDC) and the Federation of European Businesses in India (FEBI).Â
The agreement seeks to strengthen business relations between Assam and Europe through investment promotion, knowledge sharing, and enhanced business-to-business and business-to-government engagement.
