New Delhi, June 25 (APAC Media): The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), the telecom research and development organisation under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), has signed an MoU with the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad) to strengthen research and innovation in emerging communication technologies.Â
Under the collaboration, a new Centre of Excellence (CoE) will be established at IIT Hyderabad.Â
Focus on Future Communication Technologies
The newly established Centre of Excellence will focus on advancing research in critical technology areas such as wireless communications, quantum technologies, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence-driven communication systems.
With this addition, IIT Hyderabad becomes the fourth institution to host a C-DOT Centre of Excellence, following similar centres established at IIT Kanpur, IIT Gandhinagar, and IIT Roorkee.
Strengthening Academia-Industry Collaboration
The partnership will provide opportunities for students, researchers and start-ups to contribute to India’s growing telecom innovation ecosystem while supporting the country’s vision of technological self-reliance.
Research activities at the centre will cover a range of emerging areas, including 5G Advanced and 6G technologies, very large-scale MIMO systems, integrated sensing and communication networks, AI-enabled communication platforms, and quantum and post-quantum communication systems.
MoU Signed in Presence of Senior Leaders
The agreement was signed in the presence of IIT Hyderabad Director Prof. B. S. Murty and C-DOT Chief Executive Officer Dr Rajkumar Upadhyay. Faculty members, researchers and senior officials from both organisations also attended the event.
The signing ceremony was followed by the formal inauguration of the Centre of Excellence, marking the beginning of collaborative research initiatives under the partnership.
Support for Start-ups and Innovation
C-DOT has already collaborated with WISIG, a start-up incubated at IIT Hyderabad, for the development and deployment of disaggregated 5G Open RAN solutions.
Building on this existing relationship, the new Centre of Excellence will further support start-up innovation, facilitate intellectual property generation and encourage knowledge sharing through workshops, training programmes, and industry-academia collaborations.
