New Delhi, June 5 2026: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved a one-year extension in the tenure of retired IAS Tarun Kapoor as Advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Kapoor is a 1987-batch former IAS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre and was appointed to the post in June 2024.
He holds the rank and pay of a Secretary to the Government of India.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), his extended tenure will take effect from June 10, 2026.
He will continue in the post for one year or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The order stated that the appointment will continue on a contractual basis under the existing terms and conditions applicable to the post.
Kapoor has held several important positions during his administrative career.
He has been associated with policy formulation and infrastructure related initiatives at the Centre.
Before joining the Prime Minister’s Office, he served as Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
He also held senior assignments in sectors related to industry, infrastructure and economic affairs.
Since his appointment as Advisor to the Prime Minister in 2024, Kapoor has been involved in policy coordination and developmental matters.
The extension will ensure continuity in the Prime Minister’s advisory team for another year.
