Patna, July 21 (APAC Media): The Bihar government has sought a special package of ₹100 crore from the Centre to accelerate the development of tribal communities across the state.
The proposal was submitted by Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Welfare Minister Lakhendra Kumar Raushan during a meeting with Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram in New Delhi.
The memorandum outlines measures to strengthen education, healthcare, livelihoods and infrastructure in tribal areas.
Package Aimed at 22 Lakh Tribal Population
The proposed package is expected to benefit nearly 22 lakh tribal people in Bihar.
The state has sought Central assistance to improve schools, healthcare facilities, skill development centres, markets and research institutions.
It also aims to create better livelihood opportunities while preserving the cultural identity of tribal communities.
₹7.86 Crore Sickle Cell Centre Proposed
The Bihar government has also requested approval for a Centre of Competence for Sickle Cell Anaemia at AIIMS Patna.
The project, estimated to cost ₹7.86 crore, has been proposed under the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan.
The specialised centre is expected to improve diagnosis and treatment for tribal patients suffering from the disease.
10 Tribal Marketing Centres Planned
To improve market access for tribal products, Bihar has proposed setting up 10 Tribal Multi Purpose Marketing Centres.
The centres are planned in West Champaran, Jamui, Kaimur, Munger, Buxar, Siwan, Gopalganj, Araria, Saran and Madhepura.
The initiative aims to boost incomes and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for tribal families.
Bihar Seeks Higher Central Assistance
The government has urged the Centre to increase funding under Article 275(1) from the current ₹20.83 crore to ₹50 crore.
It has also requested full approval for the ₹34.39 crore Tribal Research and Training Institute (TRI) project in Patna, including a museum cum academic building, hostel facilities and other infrastructure.
The proposals reflect Bihar’s push for stronger institutional support and long term development of tribal communities through better education, healthcare, research and economic opportunities.
