Raipur: In a bid to stem the rising tide of coronavirus cases, the Raipur district administration issued fresh guidelines, including banning the entry of people in tourism spots and prohibiting religious, social, political and other programmes. The Chhattisgarh government has decided to increase the fine from ₹100 to ₹500 fine if people are found not wearing a face mask in public places.
The decision was taken as Covid-19 cases are surging across the state and country. The state health and family welfare department on Thursday issued an order to this effect under the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 to contain the spread of the infection, a release by the public relations department said.
“According to the order, now a penalty of ₹500 will be imposed if anyone is found not wearing mask or face cover in public places. Earlier, the penalty was ₹100 for the violation,” it said.
The state government has also appealed to people to strictly follow the preventive guidelines, including physical distancing and washing hands, apart from the use of masks, it said. The number of Covid-19 cases in Chhattisgarh increased by 2,419 on Thursday, the highest single-day addition in the past four months, taking the state’s tally to 3,32,113.
The death toll rose by 15 to touch 4,026 and the recovery count stood at 3,14,769 as 37 people were discharged from hospitals and 557 people completed home isolation.
