New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for railway projects worth Rs 85,000 crore on March 12. The event, held in the Sabarmati area of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, also saw the launch of 10 new Vande Bharat trains.
The foundation stones for railway workshops, loco sheds, pit lines, coaching depots, and the Phaltan-Baramati new line were laid by PM Modi; along with upgrades to the electric traction system and the dedication of two new sections of the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC).
These sections include the New Khurja to Sahnewal (401 Rkm) section of the eastern DFC and the New Makarpura to New Gholvad section (244 Rkm) of the western DFC, along with the inauguration of the western DFC’s Operation Control Centre (OCC) in Ahmedabad.
PM Modi set in motion 10 new Vande Bharat trains connecting Ahmedabad-Mumbai Central, Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam, Mysuru-Dr MGR Central (Chennai), Patna- Lucknow, New Jalpaiguri-Patna, Puri-Visakhapatnam, Kalaburagi-Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal Bengaluru, Ranchi-Varanasi, Khajuraho- Delhi (Nizamuddin) and Lucknow-Dehradun.
Extensions of four existing Vande Bharat trains were also announced, including the Ahmedabad-Jamnagar route extended to Dwarka, and the Ajmer-Delhi Sarai Rohilla route extended to Chandigarh.
Furthermore, two new passenger trains between Asansol and Hatia, as well as Tirupati and Kollam stations, were inaugurated during the event. Freight trains on the DFC were also flagged off from multiple locations including New Khurja Junction, Sahnewal, and New Rewari.
In addition to the railway projects, PM Modi dedicated 50 Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras at various railway stations, providing affordable and quality generic medicines to the public. He also inaugurated 51 Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminals.
