New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India has started the hearing of several petitions pertaining to the NEET-UG 2024 exam dispute. The three-judge bench hearing the petitions includes Justices J. B. Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, together with Chief Justice D. Y. Chandrachud, according to the SC’s cause list.
More than forty petitions will be heard by the courts, including pleas from the National Testing Agency (NTA) and several test-takers. As per PTI, the NTA has requested a transfer of all the lawsuits that are pending against it in numerous High Courts concerning the NEET-UG dispute. The petitioners have also demanded the court revoke and reexamine the results in light of the alleged paper leak and other irregularities. The Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) progress report on the investigation into the alleged paper leak case was also received by the bench chaired by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud.
The Center filed a plea to the Supreme Court last week supporting the legitimacy of the NEET-UG 2024 exam system, citing significant findings from the IIT-Madras data research. The Center said there was no proof of widespread misconduct or that any specific set of candidates had unfairly profited from the IIT Madras study. Additionally, the top court said that the distribution of high ratings was the same across all centers.
