New Delhi: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has given nod to three new projects of the Ministry of Railways to improve connectivity in seven districts of four states- Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Chhattisgarh. It will expand the current network of Indian Railways by around 300 kms.
The approved projects will construct two new railway lines and one multi-tracking project. The new line projects aim to provide direct connectivity and improve mobility, whereas the multi-tracking project is designed to facilitate operations, decrease congestion, and support infrastructural development on the busiest routes of the railway network. Under the projects, 14 new stations will be built to provide enhanced connectivity to two aspirational districts- Nuapada in Odisha and East Singhbhum in Jharkhand. The routes being developed are crucial for transportation of commodities such as agriculture products, fertilizer, coal, iron ore, steel, cement, limestone, etc. In addition, the projects are expected to reduce oil imports and effectively lower CO2 emissions.
The projects are aligned with the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan for multi-modal connectivity. They aim to provide seamless connectivity for movement of people, goods, and services.
