New Delhi: The Ministry of Jal Shakti has launched Version 2.0 of the ‘FloodWatch India’ mobile application, aiming to improve real-time flood monitoring and forecasting across the country. Union Minister Shri C.R. Paatil officially unveiled the upgraded app, which was developed by the Central Water Commission (CWC) to provide comprehensive flood data to the public.
The upgraded app now includes data from 592 monitoring stations, a significant increase from the 200 stations covered in its initial launch in August 2023. This enhancement allows for a broader overview of flood conditions across India. Additionally, Version 2.0 introduces real-time information on the storage positions of 150 major reservoirs, offering insights into potential flood scenarios in downstream areas.
The app leverages advanced technologies such as satellite data analysis, mathematical modeling, and real-time monitoring to provide accurate flood forecasts. It features a user-friendly interface available in both English and Hindi, with information accessible in readable and audio formats. Users can check flood conditions at the nearest monitoring station directly from the home page.
The ‘FloodWatch India’ app is accessible on Android and iOS devices, making it widely available to users. It can be downloaded free of charge from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
