Chennai: Cisco, the security and networking technology company, has inaugurated its first manufacturing facility in India in order to build domestic production capabilities in the country. This factory, to be set up in Chennai, will produce a range of Cisco’s routing and switching products to meet the rapidly growing technology needs of organizations in India and around the world. With this investment, Cisco aims to drive over USD 1.3 billion in revenue and broaden its supply chain. The facility is also expected to create 1200 jobs in the state of Tamil Nadu.
Cisco has collaborated with Flex to build the Chennai factory and bring advanced telecom technology that can help connect citizens in India and globally. Initially, the facility will focus on manufacturing Cisco’s Network Convergence System (NCS) 540 Series of routers. In the next phase, the company will work on innovation and technical advancements including printed circuit board assembly components with several layers. With this, Cisco aims to broaden its technical manufacturing capabilities to enable additional customers and market segments.
While inaugurating the factory, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of Communications and Minister of Development of North Eastern Region, remarked that the establishment of the manufacturing facility in India will support the country’s growing Atmanirbharta in the global technology landscape. The factory will strengthen Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of becoming a global manufacturing hub and enhance the holistic growth of India’s telecom ecosystem.
