New Delhi: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has launched the Humsafar Policy, which introduces a range of new facilities aimed at improving the travel experience on India’s national highways. The policy focuses on adding essential services such as clean restrooms, baby care rooms, EV charging stations, and wheelchair access at fuel stations.
The initiative is designed to make highway travel more convenient and comfortable for families and long-distance drivers. With dormitory options, parking spaces, and accessible rest areas, the policy also aims to support travelers’ safety and well-being.
In his address at the launch, Gadkari highlighted the need for quality, standardized services along national highways. He noted that the Humsafar Policy is also about job creation and support for small businesses that will operate and maintain these facilities.
This move aligns with the government’s push to improve infrastructure and ensure highways are equipped with services that meet travelers’ needs. The first phase of the rollout will target key locations, with plans to expand across the country. Gadkari’s emphasis on safety and convenience reflects the broader goals of the policy, which aims to transform the highway experience nationwide.
