New Delhi: The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have rolled out new support measures for students from reserved categories like SC, ST, and PwD. These include fee waivers and lower cut-offs for the 2024 JEE-Advanced exam.
Students from these categories will pay only half the application fee, and the admission cut-offs will be relaxed. For those who don’t meet the cut-off, IITs are offering preparatory courses to help them secure admission later.
To make the application process easier for rural students, IITs have set up Citizen Service Centres and a multilingual call center to answer questions. Additionally, they’ve introduced a reduced seat acceptance fee, cutting it by 50% for students from reserved categories.
IITs are also waiving full tuition for students with parental income below Rs 1 lakh and offering a two-thirds waiver for students from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) whose parents earn between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 5 lakh.
These steps aim to make IITs more accessible to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
