New Delhi: According to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme has launched with over 90,849 opportunities across 24 sectors. The internship portal, piloted on October 3, is now open for applicants nationwide.
The initiative, aimed at youth aged 21 to 24, plans to reach 125,000 internships by the end of the fiscal year 2024-25. Sectors with the highest demand include oil and gas, travel and hospitality, and banking, spanning 737 districts nationwide. The program holds a budget of Rs 800 crore.
Currently, 193 companies are involved, including major private players like Jubilant Foodworks, Maruti Suzuki, and Reliance Industries, providing internships to high school graduates and degree holders. Eligible candidates must be Indian nationals who are not in full-time employment or education, with allowances for those enrolled in online or distance learning.
Interns will receive a Rs 6,000 joining allowance through a direct benefit transfer, along with insurance coverage under the PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima and PM Suraksha Bima Yojana. Additionally, they will earn Rs 5,000 monthly, with the government covering Rs 4,500 and companies providing the remaining Rs 500 through CSR funds.
