New Delhi: The Indian Railways is set to cut down the advance reservation period (ARP) for train booking from 120 days to 60 days, excluding travel days. The new rule will be implemented from November 1, 2024. The official circular was issued to the principal chief commercial manager of zonal railways.
While clarifying the rule, the Railways explained that bookings made under the current 120-day ARP before October 31 will remain valid. In addition, any booking cancellations made after the new 60-day ARP will still be allowed. The rules will not apply to some daytime express trains, such as the Taj Express and Gomti Express as these trains have different advance reservation limits.
The move has been taken to increase ticket availability closer to travel dates. In addition, the new rule is also expected to reduce the administrative load linked to high cancellations, wastage of seats because of no-show from passengers, and checking wrongdoings by travel agents.
