New Delhi: India’s drive to boost its semiconductor manufacturing could generate up to 1 million jobs by 2026, as per a report by NLB Services. The report highlights job growth in areas like chip fabrication, assembly, testing, and packaging, with significant roles also expected in chip design and software development.
An estimated 300,000 jobs will be created in chip fabrication, while around 200,000 positions will open up in assembly and testing. The rest will span across design, software, and supply chain roles. Key positions in demand include engineers, technicians, and quality control specialists.
Despite this growth, the report notes a talent gap, with not enough skilled workers to meet the industry’s needs. To bridge this, India will need to upskill around 500,000 people every year. NLB Services CEO Sachin Alug pointed out the importance of hands-on training through internships to build a steady talent pool.
As the government and private companies invest more in semiconductor facilities, workforce training and skill development are expected to rise by 25% in the coming years, addressing the talent shortage and supporting India’s goal of becoming a major semiconductor hub.
