New Delhi: The Union Government has appointed IAS officer Nidhi Khare, a 1992-batch officer of the Jharkhand cadre, as the Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). Currently serving as the Secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, Khare will take on this additional charge.
This appointment comes in the wake of the repatriation of IAS officer Prashant Kumar Singh (1993 batch) to his parent cadre at the request of the Manipur government. Following his repatriation, Singh has assumed the role of Chief Secretary of Manipur, a state grappling with ethnic violence since May 2023.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved Khare’s assignment with immediate effect. She will hold the position until a regular incumbent is appointed or until further orders. With extensive experience in governance and administration, Khare’s dual charge underscores her critical role in managing key portfolios in consumer affairs and renewable energy. Her leadership is expected to further India’s renewable energy goals while maintaining her responsibilities in consumer affairs.
