Bengaluru: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Dharwad (IIIT Dharwad) have signed an agreement to collaborate on research and skill development in advanced technologies relevant to aerospace and defence.
Focus on Emerging Technologies
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed between HAL Management Academy (HMA) and IIIT Dharwad, aims to strengthen industry-academia collaboration in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Robotics, Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR), and Digital Manufacturing. The initiative seeks to bridge the skill gap in aerospace technologies through joint research, technical education, and hands-on industry experience.
Internships and Higher Education Opportunities
As part of the agreement, HAL officers will have opportunities to pursue higher education programs at IIIT Dharwad, while students from the institute will gain practical exposure through internships at HAL’s various divisions. The collaboration also includes faculty exchange programs, joint workshops, and the publication of technical research papers.
Strategic Industry-Academia Collaboration
Dr. G Srikantha Sharma, Executive Director of HMA, and Prof. S R Mahadeva Prasanna, Director of IIIT Dharwad, emphasized that the partnership aligns with efforts to integrate cutting-edge technology with real-world industry applications. The MoU was signed in the presence of HAL Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Dr. D K Sunil and Executive Director (HR) M G Balasubrahmanya. The agreement is expected to drive innovation and knowledge-sharing between the aerospace industry and academia, contributing to the development of future-ready professionals in the sector.
