Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has signed an agreement with Cisco to enhance digital skills training across the state. The partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 25 March, aims to train 50,000 learners through the Cisco Networking Academy (NetAcad).
The initiative will cover students in degree, engineering, and vocational institutions, equipping them with IT and emerging technology skills relevant to the job market.
Expanding Access to Digital Learning
Under this collaboration, learners will gain access to NetAcad’s self-learning and instructor-led courses. The training will focus on digital skills essential for the IT sector and other industries.
The state government will also integrate Cisco’s specialised training programs on its online portal, making them accessible to government officials and students alike.
Virtual Internships and Workforce Development
The initiative will go beyond traditional classroom learning, offering virtual internships and workforce development programs such as Women Rock IT and Find Yourself in the Future (FYIF).
These programs aim to bridge the digital skills gap and create a talent pool aligned with industry demands.
Government’s Focus on Future-Ready Skills
Speaking at the MoU signing, Andhra Pradesh Minister for Human Resource Development and IT, Nara Lokesh highlighted the need for workforce readiness in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies.
Cisco’s Senior Vice President and Global Innovation Officer, Guy Diedrich, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to strengthening the talent pipeline in India.
He emphasized the importance of digital skills in a rapidly evolving job market and how such training can enhance employability. The partnership comes at a time when digital transformation is reshaping industries, underscoring the growing demand for skilled professionals.
