Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has launched India’s first Digital Detox Centre, ‘Beyond Screens’, in partnership with the All India Gaming Federation (AIGF).
The initiative, inaugurated by Priyank Kharge, Minister for IT & BT, Rural Development & Panchayat Raj, aims to tackle the growing issue of digital addiction by offering structured intervention programs and awareness campaigns.
Focus on Structured Solutions for Digital Dependency
The Beyond Screens Digital Detox Centre and website will function as a resource hub for individuals experiencing excessive digital consumption.
The initiative focuses on:
Raising awareness about the risks of prolonged screen time.
Providing intervention programs for healthier digital habits.
Integrating digital detox strategies into healthcare policies.
Developing research-driven solutions to address digital addiction.
The program includes short-term, medium-term and long-term solutions to help individuals, as well as, communities adopt balanced digital engagement practices.
Govt and Industry Collaboration for Responsible Digital Use
Minister Priyank Kharge, speaking at GAFX 2025, emphasized the need for responsible technology consumption. He stated that structured interventions are necessary to support individuals struggling with digital dependency.
AIGF, which advocates responsible gaming, is playing a key role in shaping the initiative. Roland Landers, CEO of AIGF, said that the program aligns with their commitment to promoting a sustainable digital ecosystem and responsible online engagement.
Digital Detox as Part of Public Health Policy
The Karnataka government plans to expand ‘Beyond Screens’ into a nationwide movement, integrating digital detox strategies into public health initiatives.
The initiative signals a shift toward policy-driven action on digital well-being, with the collaboration between the government and industry aiming to set a benchmark for future efforts in digital wellness.
