New Delhi: In a significant move to bolster India’s quantum-secure communication capabilities, the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Synergy Quantum India Private Limited.
This collaboration between C-DOT and Synergy aims to co-develop Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) technologies, specifically optimised for drone-based systems.
Leveraging BB84 Protocol for Enhanced Security
The partnership will focus on building QKD systems using the decoy-based BB84 protocol with polarisation encoding. These systems will target Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6 or higher, marking a leap in real-world applicability of quantum-secure communications for mobile and airborne platforms.
Aligned with Atmanirbhar Bharat Vision
The initiative is part of the broader national vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and seeks to reinforce India’s sovereignty in critical, secure communication technologies. The QKD systems are expected to cater to defence, emergency services, government communications, and critical infrastructure sectors.
Research, Collaboration, and Outreach
In addition to product development, the MoU outlines joint work on national and international R&D projects. It also includes dissemination of findings through research papers and conferences, along with academic engagement via expert talks, short-term courses, and thematic events, strengthening India’s footprint in the global quantum technology landscape.
