New Delhi: Senior IAS Dr N Saravana Kumar (2000 batch), belonging to the Bihar cadre, has taken charge as the new vice chairman of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).
His appointment marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to strengthen urban governance and infrastructure development in the National Capital Region.
IAS Dr N Saravana Kumar brings with him a wealth of administrative experience, having held a wide range of leadership roles at both the state and central levels. Most recently, he served as Secretary of the Rural Development Department in Bihar, where he was at the forefront of implementing grassroots development initiatives aimed at uplifting rural communities.
Dr Kumar holds a master’s and a bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science, both awarded with first-class distinction. His career in public service has spanned crucial portfolios, including agriculture, food and consumer protection, education, and animal husbandry.
He has served as Principal Secretary of the Food & Consumer Protection and Sugarcane Departments, Secretary of the Agriculture Department, and Director of Animal Husbandry in Bihar.
At the national level, Dr. Kumar’s previous roles include Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Human Resource Development and Private Secretary to the Union Minister in the Ministry of Electronics & IT. His district-level governance experience includes stints as District Magistrate and Collector in several key districts of Bihar.
As Vice Chairman of the DDA, Dr. Kumar is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping Delhi’s urban future through strategic planning, land management and infrastructure development.
His diverse administrative background and deep understanding of both rural and urban challenges position him to steer the DDA through a transformative era of sustainable urban growth.
