New Delhi: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Mizoram tourism department to promote tourism and sustainable travel in the northeastern state jointly, a senior official has confirmed.
According to IRCTC tourism officer Lalsawmliana Hmar, the MoU is expected to be finalised next week. The collaboration will focus on enhancing regional connectivity, promoting ecotourism, and curating personalised travel experiences that showcase Mizoram’s natural landscapes and vibrant cultural heritage.
Under the initiative, IRCTC will actively market Mizoram as a tourist destination to domestic and international travellers, highlighting its untapped potential. The partnership also includes plans to offer outbound travel opportunities to residents of Mizoram through affordable tour packages to destinations such as Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and several European countries.
In a bid to diversify its tourism portfolio, IRCTC also plans to introduce Christian pilgrimage tours to spiritually significant locations like Corinth, Thessaloniki, Athens, Patmos and Rome.
Founded in 1999, IRCTC is a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Railways, known for its services in ticketing, catering and tourism. This partnership represents a major step toward inclusive and sustainable tourism development in India’s Northeast region.
